Recently I took two of my kids to see The Spy Next Door starring Jackie Chan, Amber Valletta, George Lopez and Billy Ray Cyrus.
As usual, Jackie Chan shows his mastery of using his environment and surroundings to fight and protect those he cares for. Everything from kitchen ware and a refrigerator to a bicycle and a folding chair was used as a weapon.
And he ALWAYS wins!
Even though it’s just a movie, many lessons can be drawn from it. Namely… What kind of change could you employ to also win at everything you do?
Mental and Environmental Change
I’m right in the middle of my NetSlingers Accelerated Coaching program, and what’s always interesting to me is where people are in their lives and why.
Even though they’ll “say” they need to learn about the technical side of setting up their businesses online, it’s usually much more than that. It’s their mental game. In fact, virtually everyone I’m coaching has been and are successful in their own right. But something happened along the way…
It’s called life. Relationships both personal and professional gone awry. Entrepreneurial highs and lows. Financial market woes. Intolerant of mediocrity…
Having someone offer a new perspective, a different viewpoint, a change of environment (whether virtual or real), an insight, a word, a related personal story…
KNOWING your value as a human who is being themselves and offering a better way, a solution to some else’s ails, or addressing a major complaint in an industry…
This is the pathway to extraordinary success for both you and those in your circle… your family, your friends, your clients, your customers, your community.
Choose your exciting path. What do you have to offer? If you’re not sure, ask three people who really know you: “What would you say are my greatest strengths?”
This is your starting point.
As the Canadian rock band, Rush, wrote in their song Vital Signs: It takes “mental and environmental change” to “leave those conditions” and have “courageous convictions to drag [your] dream into existence!”
What must change today to live life on your terms, in the way you’ve dreamed? Everybody’s got a dream…
I made a decision a few weeks ago to write my first action-adventure script by June 30th of this year. I’ve had this idea for over FIVE YEARS. When was I going to start? I’m committed to seeing it through. I even have a writing coach (which has just become two!) in my corner, as their vast experience is making the journey much more enjoyable and easier than I ever thought.
The process of writing characters is the process of personal discovery. Things I like and things I don’t.
Something must change now for me. What is it? Being exposed to other viewpoints. Gaining knowledge and understanding in areas I’ve never really journeyed before.
That means a mental and environmental change. Meeting and talking with new or different people. Reading and listening to new or unusual things. Working out everyday for just 5-10 minutes using the Five Tibetans. Playing Band Hero with my kids. Spending more time on my spiritual growth. This has made a huge difference. My game is on!
So, what must change for you today?
I’m curious to know and hear from you…
- Andy

Hi Andy,
Thank you for the informative post. I agree, for many of us, we do need to focus on what small changes we can make in our immediate environment, but also in our minds, so that we can view the success that is just ahead.
I would say that too many fight for chasing money, rather than their dreams. As we progress along that path instead, we need to celebrate even the small steps that lead forward to success.
Kind regards,
Paul Klein
Mastery itself, in any area, helps you understand what you need to know to succeed in any other arena. Jackie Chan is famed for being the consummate professional on the set, a legacy of the uncounted hours of time and buckets of sweat he expended to develop his physical skills…which then, in turn, took him to being the biggest movie star in the world in the 80’s.
Once you have mastered ANYTHING, you know the secret to mastering anything else. Time. Sweat. Finding the right mentors. Acceptance of discomfort (look at those outtakes!) Jackie is a world treasure.
Good….:-)
I am working hard to develop a work ethic that will give me everything I need to achieve speed to market and communicate my passion instantly.

Hi Andy, I appreciated very much your blog post.
I thought about what you said for almost ten minutes, reading two times your text.
I think the key for success is completed for about 50% by happiness.
In your case the happy moments can be playing with your kids, enjoying your spare time out of home and reading something different.
You will keep your mind open and flexible, and you can work smarter to obtain great results, also if sometimes, for a newbie or a starter they can’t be successful as they can be for a guru.
These little thing can add a bunch of joy to a bad day, and help someone to consider better his work.
I hope you and your vsitors can comprehend my point of view and you can excuse me for some language errors.
Thanks and Goodbye,
Alessandro
You’re quite right: we need to learn. And for that we need *input*. Today I tweeted this quote:
“People seldom improve when they have no other model but themselves to copy after.” – Oliver Goldsmith (http://twitter.com/Tesch/status/8864533525)
So we need role models to inspire us, to learn from and then improve on that.
Best wishes

Great post with a valid lesson. I love Jackie Chan and of course he always has to win. I admire him because when the insurance industry said he was too expensive to insure, he still carried on doing what he loved. That kind of determination can be translated into anything we do. For me, it is to stop procrastinating and have a fully fledged internet business that has paid off my debt by July this year!
I went to my grandson’s karate class last night. The instructor to the class to always believe in themselves.
Then he took a pad down and brought it over to a young boy. He held it out chest high. “Can you kick this high?” he asked. The boy said yes matter-of-factly. Then he held the pad out chest high, asking the boy the same question. The young man repeated his yes.
“How about this high?” the instructor asked, holding the pad out at eye-level. The boy answered “wellllll,… I think so.”
“How about this high?” the instructor asked, holding the pad above his head. The boy gave a puzzled look, but finally answered
“maybe,…… I don’t know.”
The instructor had him try it.
The boy did it, to his amazement.
The instructor then answered. “See? We can always do things we cannot think we can do.”
This is the story of teaching confidence, a can-do attitude, and ability to young men.
I hope you like it Andy!
I need to stop procrastinating. At one time in my life, I was able to tackle several tasks within a given time frame. My lifestyle changed when I took time off to care for a sick parent and be there for a teenage son with autism. I now find it very difficult to concentrate on even one task. However, I am taking steps to correct this one day at a time. I am working to achieve at least one thing a day. I will then gradually increase that to two and more until I work my way back to where I was.
I am giving myself 6 months to reach this goal.
Hi Andy,
Thank you for this wonderful opportunity. It’s been a while now since I started internet business, and I can’t recall how much have I spent in all of them and hey, I can recall how much have I made in all of them, combined, “nothing”, “zitch”,”zero”… Andy I have made NOTHING.
When I joined you, I thought you’re one of those you know, you join, join, join and keep joining until you get to know your credit card numbers by heart. Andy in short, I need money. That is why I joined you… I’m living on the last 3 notes and coins. I seriously need money
Please assist where possible
Hope to hear from you

Hi Andy,
Thanks for sharing your perspective. Always an eye opener to hear other people’s ideas. Makes one think.
For me I make a commitment to myself of what I want to get done and should get done for a certain day. And do my BEST to get it accomplished.
Cheers!

All I hear is FREE, FREE,FREE
Well only some of it is free and useful, what is not free is the ability to get the marketing thing going so I can expand and grow into a professional, like I have with my other skill sets.
Unfortunately only the live experience is transferable, not my abilities. So I need to develop A source of income so I can develop a source of income.
This is what needs to change for me.

Hi Andy,
The thing that needs to change for me is the commitment to use the time I have for my priorities instead of the things that just creep up and happen day to day. I need to live on purpose instead of letting things happen.
For me that is easy to say but hard to do since I have 3 children and they are a big priority as well along with my business priorities. So balancing it all is key for me.
I think it all boils down to knowing and having the confidence that what you are doing is going to get you to your dreams. If you have that confidence then you will have the conviction to do whatever it takes because you already have that vision of whats to come.

Thanks for the post and the invitation to contribute!
For me, doing nearly anything different to shake up whatever the standing waveform of blah I’m in at any given moment seems to shake things up…a teacher’s teacher of mine once suggested to simply do some ordinary thing in a non-ordinary fashion…read a magazine article while standing on your head..walk backwards through the mall…anything to break from the experience of ordinary-ness which we often use to lull ourselves into sleep and hopelessness.
For me today I am out walking in the rain to wake up my brain and cleanse my attitude…then back to studying and ACTION!
PS the 5 Tibetans rule!! many of the hatha yoga postures combined into 5 simple moves…how compact is that? Gotta love it.

Andy Duncan,
You can show others how to earn cash through this simple and wonderful Internet business, designed by David Rosen; he is ceative, compassionate and successful! A proven record of many years.
You can “impact communities by creating cashflow within families, so they can go from survival to contributers in their communities, making a greater impact.” The world will be changed, for them and others!

Taking planned specific action everyday in order to enhance my internet business
Don’t hang out with negative people. Replace negative thoughts with positive ones. Go for a walk at least 10-15 minutes outside each day. Get down on floor and play with little kids. Doing these things can help reduce stress and open your mind. Seeing things in a different perspective can create growth.
For me is to break old habits, for many years I wanna learn to cook, now I am thinking of finding a good course. Sometimes its money or time that prevent me from get anything done. Or is it only bad excuses. If you want change, you need to find the motivation and goals to see any results. Its a journey wich up and downs, keep moving forward. Important to start doing something today, dont wait a month or years. It makes you grow as a human being. Even the small things in life, your daily things makes differents. Have a different mindset its important.
I must change how I prioritize things. I need to use my time better to get done the things that will have the highest and best payoff for me.
A couple of examples are to workout at least three times a week and to spend at least 20 minutes a day blogging and learning how to use Dreamweaver better.
If I do all of that, it’s gonna be a great year; not just a good year.

Jackie Chan helping to instruct success: Part of going to a Jackie Chan movie is the seemingly impossible stunts he does on his own.
1) He has to be limber enough to do the basics. Get enough sleep and exercise to have your brain ready for success.
2) Practice practice practice the repetitive parts over and over again until it’s perfect. Jackie does this to be ready for the unexpected by having the expected on autopilot.
3) Jackie couldn’t try the stunt at 100 feet unless he first practiced it at 2 feet. Practice with low risk before doing high risk. You need the experience.
4) Scaling. Same ideas
5) Keep a sense of humor.
6) Stand up for principles.
7) He shows the principles of scalability in his approach to stuntwork that ends up with one continuous shot of him moving in and out of danger.

Hi Andy:
You recently telephoned me and I now have your “Quick Cash System” on which I am working. My major problem with doing anything is staying focused.
Your 12 ways to Quick Cash is at least interesting and I have decided to keep with it. Aside from the above website – which is something else I am working on and trying to find people who have future monthly payments coming in so I can give them cash instead – I am actively working on your program.
I was so impressed when you called as it just states to me that you do care about other people.
I thank you and hope all goes well for you. I may have to contact you, though, if I hit a snag. Hopefully you can/will help me. The best to you.

Hello my friend
I really enjoyed reading this buddy. You hit it on the money! As i was sitting here in my room i was thinking to myself.. “what has to change” Then BAM it hit me like Emeril. The present moment is what i should focus on more! What can i do right now to expand my mind body and soul? Realizing i have more power when i focus all my energy on what i feel is right for me to do @ this very moment. I feel empowered just as much as what you have written above!
Because he was human
Because he had goodness
Because he was moral
They called him insane

Andy, glad to know someone else is old enough to remember Rush!
Well Andy, I didn’t see that particular movie yet, but when I think about your question, “How can action star Jackie Chan instruct me to success?” What comes to my mind is the fact that I have been pondering how hard I have been working at this Internet business, yet I have not experienced the success I aim for.
Now I am a person who believes in action. And I take action as much as is possible. Lately because of Debbie Bermont’s course, (the one you recommended in one of your emails), I am beginning to notice that I spend too much energy taking action on things that are unimportant and unnecessary.
The way Jackie Chan inspires me to success is to look more openly for ways to incorporate a more positive attitude about considering people, things, ideas, situations, circumstances and events as gifts of assistance on my journey than I have in the past.
Who would think of using a refrigerator for as assist to win a fight? Yet the man does it and gets paid millions to do so. And he entertains himself and us while doing so.
So I have my eyes wide open for the things right in front of me that I might be missing and so not incorporating as assists on my success journey.
Thanks for the challenging question. I will begin to look for new ways to incorporate this principle into my success journey.
Thanks
Hi Andy,
I can definitely relate to your post. I am ready for a big change in my life and have taken some steps to make those changes. I’ve been staying up late, writing down all of my ideas and trying to implement a plan to carry them out. I have also taken action as well and it is invigorating.
Rather than be content with mediocrity and dissatisfaction, allowing myself to be distracted by the common conundrums that can occur at times, I feel it is time to change my pattern and create new habits which will lead to where my hopes and dreams are, spiritually, mentally, physically and financially. Good luck to you and your script and your endeavors.

Hi Andy, It’s Rodrigo from Santiago, Chile once again.
I truly believe that is like you say…about the new knowledge, new people, and definitively about the new areas that has never been journeyed before.
For me, at least, this has been a main road block on achieving my goals, and let me tell you right now, I’m not putting the responsability on others…it’s all about me and how can I pass through all of this “mental” blocks.
For start, the phone conversation that we get not so long ago, was indeed a positive experience and most of all things…it did get me closer to my goals.
Every day I feel closer to achieving my online venture. and I am both greatful and excited.
Thanks again, I know that my mental change is already taking place, I’m making my best effort to do what I see it has to be done about my enviroment, like leave a “friend”??? behind, one that turn to be not worth of my time and worry.
I’m expecting to meet on March, when he came back from his holidays, with a person that not until now, I have no idea that he is into the online business, you can check something about him on http://www.mofini.com, we’ll see…
Andy, once again THANK YOU.
I know that I haven’t be able to go as fast as I would want it to, but that doesn’t make me feel bad at all….because I get to see my learning curve accelerated by the day!!!
We’ll definitively keep in touch.

I appreciate all that was said but I must say that I start to do something and then not knowing what to do I get stuck or the computer does not do what they say it should, or the linking is wrong or the affiliate does not have the right code. Always something and I just cannot seem to get over that bridge to know what to do.
I email the people but you can only get a ticket and then when they answer it is in language I don’t even understand or does not even seem pertinent to what I was needing to know. I need to talk to a real person or have step by step guidelines. These gurus always leave out something that I need to know to actually get this done.
I am really frustrated. But I will not quit. Something will give one way or the other. And when that happens I will truly help out people with the full instructions.
Excellent post Andy.
What must change for me today?
1) Focus has been my issue. I must eliminate my distractions and pick one thing to focus on right now. Set a time frame for the accomplishment of the goal. Break the goal into tasks. Determine who I need to help me.
I’m an admitted infoholic. (You know the alcoholics anonymous make you say you’re an alcoholic.) I’ve got emails from just about every information marketing guru. Fills my email box. I spend alot of time going through them. Step 1 – get off the email lists.
2) Goal – develop an online business. What must change? Quit reading everything and start doing something. I’ve read enough that paralysis from analysis has come into play. (See 1 – make plan and execute.)
3) Make sure I continue my workouts, keep God first, family second and business third, seek new relationships and have a focus for the relationships (why do I want the relationship and will it be a two way?)
Thanks for starting the thoughts.
I am on a path of great changes right now personally and professionally.
I am committed to approaching my business projects from a stand point of how I can help others before myself. This has actually had unbelievable affects on my business already.
Can´t wait to apply this principle more throughout 2010.
Awesome information as usual Andy!
What needs to change about me? In some areas nothing needs to change. In others, I need to focus on my goals for sucess on the internet. Right now, I have been on the computer all day with a break to go to the market. I have not made the cash on the internet yet but I will. I must keep my positive attitude, others have suceeded and so will I. It seems that everyone who has chosen the internet goes through hard times before they suceed. So my internet sucess is just around the corner.
I’ve been looking into making money from home. All of the usual reasons. I hate my job, my boss. Stuck in a dead end job. And also want to have more time with my kids.
The few people I have told about starting a business online. Everyone brings that up. And asks me how’s my business going. I have the usual answers. The technical side is what I’m working on right now. I really don’t have a business plan in place. I feel like I really don’t know in which direction I should by going in. I’ve even bought an awesome coaching program. A few thousands dollars. The services are great. But I feel like I’m not investing the time. Like you said life happens.
I just don’t seem to have enough time. After reading your post has inspired me to dig deep inside of myself. Try to figure what’s actually holding me back. I guess the fear of failure would be the top of the list. What if I do this wrong? Am I really up to this? I look around my surroundings. And realize I’m totally not prepared. I do know something has to change.
I know….. I need to recommit myself to being able to support myself and my children. I want to able to give them more opportunities than I was given. And to stop feeling sorry for myself. I guess spiritual growth is what would give me my spark back. To overcome my fears. To say just do it already!!!
My husband really likes Jackie Chan. What impresses me is just what you mentioned.. how he uses tools to accomplish what he needs to do, and also his focus. I think it is my mindset that must change, to be more focused. There are many (many) distractions when working online and the #1 thing I have discovered in the years I have been working with internet business is to put the blinders on and focus. Choose your tools and don’t let distractions get in your way if you truly want to be successful. Above that it is great to have goals and go after your desires, keeping the focus on those as well.
Wow! The old saying the teacher will appear when the student is ready, proving to be more accurate all the time.
I’ve had my share of personal upheavals the last few years and I’m trying, no working, at changing my attitude, outlook and direction. Not much in the way of support so the going is a bit slow. Sometimes progress gets stalled while I pick myself up, again, and brush my self off checking to make sure that everything is still working.
I also have seen the Tibetian 5 Rites but have failed to implement them –> Daily!
Now is my time to SUCCEED!!
Thank you for listening.
A very inspiring article. Thank you for sharing this with me at a time when I am in discomfort zone…after so long being in a comfort zone I have decided to unlearn a lot of obsolete knowledge and learning new things and new work process. Having this mental frame is key. Thank you.
My game is on also, but unlike you Andy, I’m penniless!
That means: I’m in the 4th Qtr. and I’m in a state of suspended animation…I have a site filled with beautiful art prints, which no one can see, because list building seems to cost a lot of what I don’t have…
So, what needs to change for me is,- you need to hire me, to help you write your unfinished script, so I can go forward with my endeavor…I’m a writer, as well as an artist, and photographer…Thomas David Stringer -
I am really fascinated by the write up and would like to know more.
Hi Andy,
I’ve been struggling with Internet Marketing for several years now, but it wasn’t down to the technical side (I’m an IT consultant and ex-programmer) it was getting my head around the marketing and business side of things. My wife recently got involved too, and she’s been able to bring her business/marketing focus to complement my technical skills.
I think this is part of the secret – figure out your weaknesses, then find someone to work with who can fill those gaps.
Regards,
-John.
What has to change for me is my focus, & today, as in the last few, I’ve decided to unsubscribe from a few e-mailing lists I’m on, get out the white board, & make a “mind-map” to get me where I want to be. I’m also scheduling my day in advance & sticking to it. It’s amazing how many “distractions” there are, that just waste your time & suck life away from you.
There’s nothing like starring in the action adventure of our own lives! Congratulations for making the commitment to write your own script-both on the page and in your life. What has changed for me lately is my willingness to stop lurking, show up and be accountable for my results.
I have posted my intentions in a few places and am reporting back on what I’ve done. Amazing how just that one act has opened up a world of support that was there all along, but didn’t know I had. I had many resources in my environment that I wasn’t using. The more I look, the more grateful I become to see the amazing wealth I am surrounded with. As they say, its not what you”re looking at, its what you are looking with. Looking through the lens of opportunity makes everything a potential instrument of change and possibility. I guess that makes me just like Jackie Chan, too…Thanks for that image!. Keep us posted on your writing as you go along, Andy!
If I can start to socialize more, it would help me in my spiritual growth. Often I will just hang back and check people out. But I see know that becoming apart of the scene The scene will become me in return. My mental self is becoming clearer, and my surroundings have made a leap forward since studing IM. Now I need to implement what you guys have been teaching me. You guys rock!
Again, thanks for the continual inspiration, Andy.
What must change?
Moving from “Coming Attractions” to “Showtime!”
Lights? Long since set.
Camera? Been rollin’ rollin’ rollin’.
Now, it’s time for Action!
