Recently I took two of my kids to see The Spy Next Door starring Jackie Chan, Amber Valletta, George Lopez and Billy Ray Cyrus.
As usual, Jackie Chan shows his mastery of using his environment and surroundings to fight and protect those he cares for. Everything from kitchen ware and a refrigerator to a bicycle and a folding chair was used as a weapon.
And he ALWAYS wins!
Even though it’s just a movie, many lessons can be drawn from it. Namely… What kind of change could you employ to also win at everything you do?
Mental and Environmental Change
I’m right in the middle of my NetSlingers Accelerated Coaching program, and what’s always interesting to me is where people are in their lives and why.
Even though they’ll “say” they need to learn about the technical side of setting up their businesses online, it’s usually much more than that. It’s their mental game. In fact, virtually everyone I’m coaching has been and are successful in their own right. But something happened along the way…
It’s called life. Relationships both personal and professional gone awry. Entrepreneurial highs and lows. Financial market woes. Intolerant of mediocrity…
Having someone offer a new perspective, a different viewpoint, a change of environment (whether virtual or real), an insight, a word, a related personal story…
KNOWING your value as a human who is being themselves and offering a better way, a solution to some else’s ails, or addressing a major complaint in an industry…
This is the pathway to extraordinary success for both you and those in your circle… your family, your friends, your clients, your customers, your community.
Choose your exciting path. What do you have to offer? If you’re not sure, ask three people who really know you: “What would you say are my greatest strengths?”
This is your starting point.
As the Canadian rock band, Rush, wrote in their song Vital Signs: It takes “mental and environmental change” to “leave those conditions” and have “courageous convictions to drag [your] dream into existence!”
What must change today to live life on your terms, in the way you’ve dreamed? Everybody’s got a dream…
I made a decision a few weeks ago to write my first action-adventure script by June 30th of this year. I’ve had this idea for over FIVE YEARS. When was I going to start? I’m committed to seeing it through. I even have a writing coach (which has just become two!) in my corner, as their vast experience is making the journey much more enjoyable and easier than I ever thought.
The process of writing characters is the process of personal discovery. Things I like and things I don’t.
Something must change now for me. What is it? Being exposed to other viewpoints. Gaining knowledge and understanding in areas I’ve never really journeyed before.
That means a mental and environmental change. Meeting and talking with new or different people. Reading and listening to new or unusual things. Working out everyday for just 5-10 minutes using the Five Tibetans. Playing Band Hero with my kids. Spending more time on my spiritual growth. This has made a huge difference. My game is on!
So, what must change for you today?
I’m curious to know and hear from you…
- Andy
